THE HUNT IS ON
June 4th, 2008Zero artworks, zero experience, few contacts and little budget. That’s me, Tommi Brem. I’m 31 years old, married, no kids, head of the concept department at a marketing consultancy in Stuttgart, Germany.
I used to be one of the guys who ran through art exhibitions exclaiming, “I could do that”. To be honest, art used to make me angry. Very much like classical music. Today I know it was not the art’s fault. I simply didn’t understand what the books and exhibition leaflets were trying to tell me. It all read like the small print in a mobile phone contract. It still does a lot of times.
The first time I got really excited about a piece of contemporary art was when Christian, my boss and colleague and one of the founders of Independent Collectors (link), explained to me some of the works of Peter Piller.
And now it’s time to embark on a long-term experiment under public surveillance: I will become a full-fledged collector of contemporary art. Not because I have to, but because I want to. It feels like I decided to change my life.
While I’m writing this, I’m preparing to travel to art basel (link) from where I will report later this week.
